Your application of the cleanup tag to "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter"

You applied the cleanup tag to the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" article. That tag displays a message to readers that says:

"To meet Wikipedia's quality standards, this article or section may require cleanup.
See rationale on the talk page, or replace this tag with a more specific message. Editing help is available.

But you didn't start a discussion on the talk page. IMO, that is irresponsible. This is a bee in my bonnet because there was another wikipedian who used to track my edit history, almost like a stalker, and apply all kinds of bogus tags. He wasn't prepared to enter into serious discussions on talk pages, because, I believe, he wanted to abuse the wikipedia to get across his political points. One sign that he wasn't seriously interested in improving the wikipedia was the frequency with which he didn't initiate discussions to solidify the case for applying the tags he used. Alternatively he would boiler-plate in some patent nonsense.

If I am going to challenge his mis-use of tags, I am going to have to question other people, who apply tags, but don't follow through by initiating the discussion. -- Geo Swan 21:00, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Yeah, that's totally fine by me. It's just that "5 star" directly implies a rating by one of the major sources like AAA, Mobile or Michelin. Don't forget to subst: templates!

Hi,

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

• Most current style guides (WP:STYLE, CMS) use an apostrophe-s for all singular words, even those ending in s. There are particular exceptions based on convention (e.g. Jesus'). –Shoaler (talk) 20:03, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Veirs Mill Road

To save you from mistake in the future, I am notifying you that the road which carries MD 28 for about a block in Rockville, MD is an exception to the "i before e" rule. Virtues & otherwise of 'prioritize'

Hi, Shoaler. Not a big deal, but am a tad puzzled why you consider use of prioritize in first sentence of the Libertarianism article "either wrong word or ambiguous." My on-board dictionary gives the following:

prioritize verb 1 we must prioritize pollution control emphasize, concentrate on, put first, focus on, fast-track, expedite, make a priority. 2 they prioritize patients according to need rank, order, hierarchize, triage; grade, class, categorize.

prioritize verb [ trans. ] designate or treat (something) as more important than other things : prioritize your credit card debt. • determine the order for dealing with (a series of items or tasks) according to their relative importance : age affects the way people prioritize their goals | [ intrans. ] are you able to prioritize?

It's not, admittedly, the most attractive of words but in this context, rather than being ambiguous, seems more specific & forceful than your substituted give priority to, with the additional virtue that it chimes by contrast with minimize in the clause that follows. Hi Wingspeed, My dictionary only gave the second meaning, to put in priority sequence. I suspected that it was being used in the first sense, to make first in priority, but my first reaction when I saw it was uncertainty as to what was meant. I guess I come from an era when any use of "prioritize" was considered sloppy English. "About" template

I saw you added a message to the top of Biding My Time, pointing to another page with a similar title. There is a template that should be used for this. It used to be called "about", and has recently been renamed to the rather bad name of "otheruses4", but the word "about" is equivalent and still works (and I prefer to use it, because I think there is a good chance the official name will change back). Here is some documentation about it:

I have been unable to edit due to a outdated User:shoaler/vector.js I had put in there several years ago. I found a way to edit and effectively disable it so I am able to edit again.
