The article first indicates Stephanus remained Catholic, then seems to indicate he became Protestant. Can someone clarify? Thanks. Birdchest.
It says that the Robert Estienne who remained a Catholic was the son of the subject of this page.
We are told that "the text of the Vulgate was in a wretched condition". The seems to be a quote from the 1911 effort or Schaff-Herzog.
