Unarchiving village pump discussion
[edit]Hello. Is it possible for you to unarchive Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive 189#Spongebob Squarepants is now freely licensed!? The reason why that section hasn't really been touched is that we're awaiting a response from Nickelodeon from WMF Legal. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 18:09, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- @JohnCWiesenthal: Hi,
- I don't know. Am I allowed to do that? Where should it be put back? Why can't you do it yourself? Yann (talk) 16:37, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know if I'm allowed to do that either. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 00:55, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- @JohnCWiesenthal: I don't edit that much here. I mostly add multimedia content to articles. So best would be to ask someone else who knows. Yann (talk) 14:28, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. I looked at the header of the archive page, and apparently a new thread should be made to revive the discussion. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 19:59, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- I asked the thread creator about this, and they moved the discussion to WP:RFC at WP:Requests for comment/Spongebob Squarepants is now freely licensed!. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 23:56, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

PD due to lack of notice
[edit]Hi Yann What did you mean by the history summar: PD due to lack of notice? Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 11:02, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Maineartists: Hi, Yes, in USA before 1978, any document should have a copyright notice when published to get a copyright. In the absence of notice, the document got immediately in the public domain. For postcards, the notice could be in the front or in the back. In addition, until 1964, the copyright had a duration of 28 years, and should have been renewed to be still under a copyright. Please see also Copyright formalities and Copyright renewal in the United States. Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:04, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Film categories
[edit]I had to look at your edit history to see what you were talking about. But no, in fact, the categories you're trying to add are not categories that a video file is supposed to have — we have absolutely no category schemes of "Uploaded with [software]", "Files uploaded by [Name of Wikipedia Editor]" or "Videos of films in [Language] from [Year]" at all. So not only are those not categories that exist, they're also not categories that would be expected to exist, because absolutely none of them have anything to do with how we categorize files.
(And especially in the case of the "Files uploaded by [You]" category, note that we have a rule about not revealing your real-life first and last names on here for privacy and safety reasons. So even if categorizing files for the identity of their uploader were a thing we did — which, again, it isn't — that category still couldn't stay at that name anyway.)
So since they're not categories that would be expected to exist, creating them isn't really on your list of options, but neither is just filing stuff in redlinked categories that don't exist. So really the answer is just don't use them at all. Bearcat (talk) 12:36, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Bearcat: OK, thanks. These are the categories used on Commons. I don't add categories here often, so I didn't know. Yann (talk) 16:51, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

Widtsoe is a ghost town in Garfield County, Utah, United States. It is located in John's Valley, northeast of Bryce Canyon and along the Sevier River at the mouth of Sweetwater Creek. A small number of settlers arrived in the area in 1876 and it became a town around 1908 after farmer Jedediah Adair was followed by a more significant population. Initially known as Adairville, after Adair, the town later became Houston and Winder, before attaining its final name after John A. Widtsoe, the president of and an agricultural scientist at the University of Utah. The population declined significantly from 1920 following droughts, and the town emptied in 1936. Most buildings were demolished shortly afterwards. This photograph by Dorothea Lange shows Widtsoe's Emery Valley Mercantile Co. grocery store in 1936. X-rays are a form of high-energy electromagnetic radiation, with wavelengths shorter than those of ultraviolet rays and longer than those of gamma rays – roughly in the range of 0.01 to 10 nanometres. X-rays were discovered by German scientist Wilhelm Röntgen in 1895, who named them X-radiation to signify an unknown type of radiation. X-rays can penetrate many solid substances such as construction materials and living tissue, and X-ray radiography is widely used in medical diagnostics. This medical significance was noticed by Röntgen shortly after he discovered X-rays; this print, titled Hand mit Ringen (Hand with Rings), is a print of his first medical X-ray, taken of his wife Anna Bertha Ludwig's hand in December 1895. Possible restoration suggestion
[edit]Hey, @Yann! You've probably never seen me before but I troll around main page activities and recently saw this File:Billy Possum advertisement.jpg on one of my editor friend's articles that they wrote. Would you be interested in restoring this image or is this out of your restoration purview? Was hoping to nominate it for FP but I can see some clear problems with it. Thanks , Cowboygilbert - (talk) ♥ 03:17, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

- @Cowboygilbert: The poster is too small to be worth a restoration. If you find a big version (at least 12 Mpx), then please tell me. For the picture, I will have a look, but my program is already very full, so I can't promise anything. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:02, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons block
[edit]Hello. I believe my block is unjustified. I didn't get the warnings you mentioned and I didn't know these images weren't free to use. You don't know either. There's no information about that. You could have at least sent me a message before blocking me. I may have made a mistake, but that's no reason to block me for a week. Also, why are my AI generated images being considered for deletion? They're obviously free to use. Please do not ignore this message.
