I suggest that this image be deleted for two reasons:

  1. A higher-resolution version exists at Image:AmazingFantasy15.jpg
  2. The Windows bitmap format is not really suitable for www use. See Wikipedia:Image use policy#Format. JPEG is the best choice.

I thought I should warn you before I put it on WP:IFD. -leigh (φθόγγος) 20:05, Jan 2, 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I see that most of the images you've uploaded have been Windows bitmaps. Admittedly, they were all a few months ago, but do you think you could convert them to jpegs? Thanks. -leigh (φθόγγος) 21:17, Jan 2, 2005 (UTC)

I highly recommend irfanview for viewing, resizing, cropping, and converting images. It's completely free and incredibly useful. If you don't want to mess with the images now, that's fine. Next time I get to a decent connection (instead of this accursed dial-up), I can clean them up for you. Also, thanks for the kind words, and for your thoughtful discussion on the WikiProject. -leigh (φθόγγος) 16:37, Jan 7, 2005 (UTC)

I disagree; Cable is far more than a "telepath," and I do believe "psychic" is the standard canon term for someone with psionic powers (including telepathy, telekinesis, and nebulous other abilities). Miss Cleo connotations are unfortunate, but IMHO irrelevant. It's obvious that we're discussing a fictional, super-powered character who can really do these things. And besides, Nate Grey spent some time working in Central Park as a psychic-in-the-Miss-Cleo-sense, with an intentional, subtextual commentary on "supernatural" charlatans. -leigh (φθόγγος) 23:34, Jan 14, 2005 (UTC)

Image:DD181.jpg has been listed for deletion

[edit]
An image or media file you uploaded, Image:DD181.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

As a contributor to the above article, would you mind looking through it and seeing if you can provide any references? The reason I ask is that at WPT:CMC we are trying to get more comics articles given Featured Article status. Thanks for any help you could provide. Steve block talk 15:16, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As a member of WikiProject Comics, I thought you might be interested in the Comics Collaboration of the Fortnight we have set up. Please feel free to vote on the articles listed, although bear in mind that a vote for a particular article means you are pledging to help improve the article. The goal of the collaboration is to improve articles to Featured Article status, as we feel Comics is under-represented in that area. Thanks for your help. Nice job on that page. Such extensive reworking all at once can be a problem, but you vastly improved an article that has needed it. - DavidWBrooks 18:18, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Black Panther

[edit]

Hi. I know Wikipedia has a lot of guidelines and it's impossible to know them all. Just wanted to say that if you look through the entries for Spider-Man, Daredevil (Marvel Comics) and many, many other up-to-date comics-character articles, you'll see they all follow this format that evolved through consensus by Wikipedia:WikiProject_Comics, with some explars at [[1]]. Since Wiki oeprates on consensus, I hope you don't mind if I return Black Panther to the same format as other articles in the Comics Project.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to seeing your contributions to Comics Project. You might also enjoy Portal:Comics. Best wishes, - Tenebrae 13:39, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your thoughtful reply. I would agree that the Kirby-conception material and his temporary costume could go further into the article — good call. Likewise, the material about "rigorous intellectual and physical conditioning" etc. isn't necessary for the introduction, where the key is establishing what he is not, not the deeper detail of why he is.
Given his prominence as the first major Black superhero, and the promience of the term "Black Panther" in American history and politics, perspective on T'Challa's place in popular culture and the larger culture is important to have upfront.
The last two points are simply technical. The first-sentence phrasing that had been there is one that's consistent with ComicsProject style and with entries throughout. Also, as you're familiar with Wikipedia policies, you know that such terms as "current" are disallowed.
I've devised a compromise version based on the above. Please let me know what you think, and we can tweak additionally if necessary.
Thanks again for your solid and civil response. It's much appreciated, as were your good points therein. -- Tenebrae 13:29, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the kind words. Before responding, may I ask you to please remove the excerpted article entry itself from my Talk page? It's rather a clutter, and I'm sure there must be something somewhere in Wikipedia policy about placing whole, formatted article text and artwork onto someone's Talk page. Thanks. -- Tenebrae 14:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the cleanup on my Talk page. You've been more than OK in our discussions, and I really appreciate that. I in fact agreed with some of the points you made in the WikiComics talk page, and wrote my concurrence there. Thanks again, -- Tenebrae 21:03, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit summary[2] Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. "you're a freaking moron if you can't tell Strange is fictional" IS a personal attack. If you have a problem with the guidelines for writing up fictional characters, I suggest you work on changing that guideline rather than ignore it and the work that dozens if not hundreds of editors have put into thousands of articles. WikiComics Project intro

[edit]

At Wikipedia:WikiProject_Comics/exemplars#Comic_book_characters, the actual policy, above the examples, states:

The opening sentence is currently formatted as "{Name of character} ({birth name}) is a fictional (character/superhero/supervillain) in the ''Example'' Comics ''Example'' Universe. Created by {creator(s)}, he/she/they first appeared in {Name of series} #{issue number} ({year})."

You're within your rights to consider it "redundant" and "espeacially [sic] repugnant". You can go on the Project Talk page to argue for change, but that is the current style, and that is what the consensus of other editors adhere to. I understand your passion for the project — hell, we all work anonymously for no money! — but we can't just unilaterally change things on which a a host of others have reached consensus through weeks or months. You can see this, right? Let's work together on other things; heaven knows a ton of these articles need serious, serious work, more so than just stylistic. -- Tenebrae 14:48, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Sydbarrettscar.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sydbarrettscar.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 18:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:ReturnofPhantom.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ReturnofPhantom.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Wolverine-limited-series-001.jpe. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Fair use disputed for Image:Spawn.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Spawn.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Carl (CBM · talk) 00:22, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
