[edit]I made a redirect here from Jan Vermeer (though nothing links to it), but shouldn't the article be at Jan Vermeer instead? They get about an equal number of Google hits (38 800 for Johannes, 34 000 for Jan), but my first instinct when I was looking for him here today was to search for Jan. - I've always heard him referred to as Johannes. -- Viajero 10:59, 23 Nov 2003 (UTC)
The museums here could use links, many have articles. -- Jmabel 00:25, Sep 23, 2004 (UTC)

TO DO: mention the role Vermeer played in Proust at a time before he had reached his current popularity. Notjim 13:36, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, I added a link under influences Notjim 14:02, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Also, the Italian version of this is fantastic, it has an entry for every one of the pictures, anyone fancy translating the Italian? Notjim 13:44, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Finally, I added the new one: A Young Woman seated at the Virginals, maybe someone would like to *comment on this attributation in the main text, I amn't really qualified, my understand is just that it is widely accepted. Notjim 14:02, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Just the facts, ma'am
[edit]1. Let me get this straight. We're told about the theft of The Love Letter in 1971, but not The Concert, 19 years closer to our era. Which, still missing, reduced the no. of Vermeers whose whereabouts are known by 1/34.
2. As for the former: No, we needn't know whether the painting was ever recovered. "Yesterday a world figure was assassinated. Turning to the weather ..."
3. And we certainly don't care to know when the most Vermeers were ever exhibited in 1 place. A mere almost-2/3 of 'em were assembled for the 1st time since, oh, Bill Clinton was president. Wait a minute. He was president when that happened.
No hurry. The article's been online for 19 yrs. It can wait another 19.
(I hesitate to make these fixes myself, since I'm not an expert on the topic.)
And the above notwithstanding: This is a solid article, w/ scholarship well exceeding Wiki's often armchair-amateur writing. I usu. find Wiki's grading too lenient. Here, perhaps something higher than 'B' is deserved.
What’s his full name?
[edit]Why is his name written “ Johannes Reijniersz Vermeer” in the section “Marriage and family”, but in the lead paragraph his name is written “ Johannes Vermeer”?
Does he have a middle name? 2601:1C0:8380:16E0:CCF0:E9C:316:A8E8 (talk) 17:41, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Contradiction
[edit]The article mentions his eldest daughter Maria, but she is not listed on the 10 children of his whose names are known. — THORNFIELD HALL (Talk) 23:28, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
