Asterix and Cleopatra

[edit]

Will do. Unfortunately, a synopsis from the back of the book actually can't be added here, as it is a copyright violation. But I will fix up the content there now right away. Thanks and welcome. Christopher Parham (talk) 06:46, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks alright to me now. Christopher Parham (talk) 06:51, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • The main problem with the copyrights, as I understand it, is that the license used by Wikipedia, the GFDL, allows for free modification of the content. We can't assume that the publishers of the book have released the content of the blurb under this license or an equivalently acceptable free license; indeed, they probably haven't done so, since they would want to protect their text from undesirable or unflattering parodies, etc. Reasonable quotes from the blurb would be admissable but certainly not the entirety of it. I am not a lawyer, however; see Wikipedia:Copyrights for more detailed information. Christopher Parham (talk) 07:03, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Morituri te salutant

[edit]

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Morituri te salutant, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Morituri te salutant. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --24fan24 04:40, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll change it to a afd tag so we can let the community decide.

Asterix languages

[edit]

I'm revert your last change to Asterix - While some have been translated into Latin (22) and Ancient Greek (actually Attic Greek - the modern version of Ancient Greek -- only has 4 volumes translated), the languages mentioned as having "most" albums translated (including modern Greek) have at least 30 (90%) of the albums translated -- several other languages have more than 22 translations btw ... I will add esperanto (5) to the first list though, as one to show the scope of interest ^_^ ... --Invisifan 23:30, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you need to be careful editing large articles, depending on a number of factors (apparently aggravated by the Google toolbar if you use it) the article can be cut short accidentally ... As to the actual edit -- better ... I really don't think moving Latin, etc to the bottom of the paragraph is the best though ... "Some of the albums are also available in ... "   could include about 60 languages and there's really no reason to pick one over another -- where it was it indicated the vast diversity of the translations (essentially dead languages dating to the period the stories are set in, through modern artificial languages)... Also (while I understand the desire) including hindi (6 albums) essentially opens the door for every modern language a few albums have ever been translated too: Turkish (30, Korean (24) & Farsi (8) have as good or better claim ... My criteria for the language list was more than 90% (ie. 30 albums) so Turkish should probably be in it (I'll add it actually -- Indonesian has the same number) ... Think about it.--Invisifan 10:28, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, I think the original placement is best, but I see your point about the wording .. I've changed that slightly for clarity - does that make more sense? --Invisifan 11:23, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Asterix templates

[edit]

First point: the template INCLUDES the category, so I'm reverting your separations of the two -- it's redundant. Secondly I'm not sure I agree about splitting the template in two ... for one thing the films that are not strictly based on single books like Asterix the Gaul, Asterix and Cleopatra and Asterix in Britain all have "book of the film" albums, and therefore still belong in the template - for another it seems divisive to have multiple Asterix temples - why not one-stop shopping? give the books options of checking the movies & vice versa --Invisifan 10:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only films without novelizations are Asterix the Gaul, Asterix and Cleopatra and Asterix in Britain which were adapted closely enough that no novelization was required... (they also have no articles other than the Albums as well). I can modify the template to put things into that correct category, that's not a problem, just a bit of work -- I'll do it later today. Your category goes to edit because there's no actual page reference for it even though things refer to it... --Invisifan 17:29, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Asterix recurring images

[edit]

with them the way they were all 3 Main characters were consistently thumbnails ... when they aren't thumbnails Asterix' & Obelix' images are not transparent (as the rest are) and Obelix' image is much too big.--Invisifan 22:44, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Asterix' & Obelix' sizes look better (but you made Dogmatix larger - and in GIF format he won't resize well - particularly smaller). The transparency issue with Obelix is that his image has a background (white, so not everyone will notice, but not everyone uses white as a background colour). I don't really care where the image comes from, just that it's representative of the character. Paint is inferior, but there are many options without going to overpriced options like Photoshop -- in any event I can fix it if you like, I'm just hesitant to replace most existing images unless I feel really strongly about it. by the way I'd leave the pirates as thumb - for 2 reasons: (1) they have backgrounds, so the border is more appropriate, and (2) it allows a caption so you can indicate who's who.--~~
explaining it... well, there are 2 ways to do it, and it only really works for GIF and PNG image formats... you can mark a colour as transparent in the image when you save it (GIF or PNG) -- it's crude, but effective enough if the image is sufficiently clean (Irfanview (a freeware image viewer) can save like that and even PAINT is adequate to do clean up (though it can be tedious) ... the better method (PNG only) is to use alpha-channel transparency but you need good graphics software for it (Photoshop does it of course, but Paint Shop Pro is more affordable, or the GIMP is free, and there are others) ... Anyway there are dozens out there on the web or I can make a custom one in a few minutes (I just, as I said, hesitate to replace existing images)--Invisifan 10:02, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Asterix-pirates-3.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Asterix-pirates-3.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:07, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Asterix-pirates-3.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Asterix-pirates-3.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 11:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Shubha (Arabic), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Shubha. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. June 2008

[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to move Shubha by copying its content and pasting it into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is considered undesirable because it splits the page history which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at the cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. File source problem with File:Maldives.A2004005.0545.1km.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Maldives.A2004005.0545.1km.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:17, 25 July 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:17, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:49, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Akhil

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Akhil, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on File:Nirma Institute 1.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 05:43, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article Yash (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
