[edit]I note you have removed the parent category Category:New religious movements from this page because it does not fit in with the post-WWII timeframe, as given in the New religious movement article. This category is actually a little broader than the article suggests, reaching back into the nineteenth century. It is possible we will add an explicit time demarcation to the title to make this more clear. This category is in fact still in flux, and has not yet "settled down." We may want to revisit Mormonism's inclusion in the category once its contours have become more definite. --Gary D 00:36, 19 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Would it be possible to add an article on the "Basic 4" stockpiling plan? While it's not an aspect of Mormon/LDS doctrine per se, it is promoted by the church. Orville Eastland
Christian denomination tree template
[edit]This template is used on the page; however, Mormons are not included in it, nor does the Christian denomination category include Mormons. I don't particularly care in what way this is fixed, being neither Christian nor Mormon myself, but this is not consistent. Ken Arromdee 20:49, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Legitimate concern, and it's now addressed. Good catch. --The Editrix 23:05, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
--Fredeboulou 11:46, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Could you explain, please, why you believe the Denominations table is abusive? --The Editrix 13:26, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
--Fredeboulou 12:33, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Note question raised by previous editor on talk page. The comment provides context. And perhaps you could attempt to comment in English? This is, you'll note, the en.WP. And I suspect I translate poorly. Thanks! Merci! --The Editrix 13:20, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
--Fredeboulou 17:35, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Pretty sure I specified je parle BAD French, eh? As seen above, I believe I have gone above the call of duty in attempting to fangyi ni de faghwo hwa. Ke shir, ni bu yau bangju wo. Swo yi, wo syang women ying gai shwo gwoyu. Hau bu hau? Désolé. These are English-language pages. Comments must be in English. If your English is inadequate to the task, let's all speak Mandarin, using Yale Romanisation. Ok? In exchange, I promise not to comment on the French-language pages. --The Editrix 21:44, 26 June 2006 (UTC), she of the school of Literalist French.
Discuss Subdiving the Category
[edit]While I think this is definitely a useful category, and has some advantages the way it is now, I think there ought to be a discussion on the pros and cons of making a subcategory for "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints", and having all related topics specific to that church under that subcategory; or we can go further and make separate subcategories for each denomination, and then a speparate one for something like "pre-1844 Mormonism" (not that this would be to my preferences, but rather to appease everyone here). I think the current format is bit too cumbersome and ties divergent topics together too closely. Any comments?Isaac Crumm 08:56, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Structure and classification of categories
[edit]Mormonism is described as "a term used to describe the religious, ideological, and cultural elements of certain branches of the Latter Day Saint movement, specifically, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and Mormon fundamentalism."
The Mormonism category does not directly include the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints nor the Mormon fundamentalism subcategories. The only way for a user to navigate to the two specific main mormonism topics is through the Latter Day Saint denominationis subcategory.
The wikipedia categories is definately not a tree structure although parallell tree structures may be convenient, see Categories do not form a tree. Although articles are somwhat dependent of the categories, the structure of the categories may be changed.
When changing the structure, classification may be used to help users understand and browse through the categories, see Wikipedia:Classification
