Surely if they use the French suits they are French playing cards rather than Anglo-American? Or are there a different number of cards in a French deck, or some other obvious diference I'm not aware of? Mintguy — Preceding undated comment added 14:07, 18 December 2002

My guess would be that what makes them Anglo-American is the naming "Q"/"K" for Queen/King rather than D/R for Dame/Roi. -- Timwi 00:57 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Standard court card face directions?

I've seen arguments about the various ways "standard" court cards display their subjects' faces.

• The spades all face left; everyone else faces right.
• K♠, Q♦, Q♣ face right; everyone else faces left.
• K♥, Q♦, Q♣ face right; everyone else faces left.
• All spades and J♣ face right; everyone else faces left. (my deck)

... and so on. People talk about "Hoyle" standard (which is apparently a misnomer) and "international" standards, but I can't find any actual description of a standard direction for the faces of the court cards. Anyone have solid data on this? Jeff Q 17:09, 19 Sep 2003

Combine articles?

Any particular reason this article is kept separate from the playing card article? The "Anglo-American" phrasing feels bulky. -- Netoholic 21:34, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC)
