Why was the falg chnaged from large to medium? The style of teh flag of pages uses the Large flag, also the Union flag is far far far too dark. -fonzy
I wanted it to be the same size as the modern Nfld flag. I didn't do anything to alter the colour, though there may be a problem with somebody's program. -- Montréalais
ok well you coudl ry to resize, i am hoping one day some one who is very good at grahpics/vexiology makes us our own, flags so they ae WIKIPEDIAS ratehr than public domain etc. The colour is odd teh ful size one looks fine/teh right clour etc, but this medium one looks far too dark on my pc.- fonzy.
Jumping ahead, do you even think it's necessary to have the Union Flag on this page? It's not particularly distinctive, and an image of the union flag is not what people interested in the flag of Nfld-Lab are interested in seeing. I think just something like "Prior to xxxx, the colony used the Union Jack as its flag" would be sufficient. - Montréalais
- The Union Jack is flown at most (if not all) government buildings throughout the province; I think it's justified to keep this here. (Moonbeast 22:09, 7 January 2006 (UTC))
Provincial Flag
[edit]- I have to wonder about the neutrality of this section of the article (the three last paragraphs, in particular). Sounds like a fan of the tricolour flag wrote it. Maybe some of it is true, but some sources should be referenced in support of the claims. Further, maybe some less inflamatory language could be used? Skeezix1000 22:25, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
If I'm not mistaken, its cleaned up now, taking it off the Canadian Wikipedian's Disuputed Articles section Treleth 05:39, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Tricolour
[edit]I hate to break it to people but the Newfoundland tricolour was never the colony's official flag. This article (and others) can't pretend that it was. Homey 06:32, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Red Ensign
[edit]Items of note concerning the Red Ensign. The symbol for the Newfoundland Red Ensign was the design of Adelaide Lane, a niece of Governor Boyle. She represented Newfoundland as a kneeling fisherman with the harvest of the sea beside him being presented to Britannia by Mercury. With one minor alteration the design was approved on May 18, 1904. The symbol was later replaced by the Newfoundland Coat of Arms that was awarded to Sir David Kirke on November 13, 1637. HJKeats 23:32, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
