Beefing Up the History Section
[edit]Inky Jungwirth (the Oshkosh historian) unfortunately died in 2018. He wrote this though, which probably contains a lot of useful information: https://archive.org/details/AHistoryOfTheBloodySixthWardInTheCityOfOshkosh See also https://www.oshkoshpubliclibrary.org/jungwirth
I might also suggest Tom Weber as a nearly 70 year resident of the city as being quite knowledgeable with the history and happenings in Oshkosh.
There's not even a mention of how the 6 "wards" came to be! Enclaves of particular immigrant nationalities perhaps? Church parishes? Inky's book has some clues.
Population
[edit]Population numbers are extremely incorrect
the demographic breakup is wrong....oshkosh is more like 95% white...Why can I find no information about Chief Oshkosh?
- The population and demographic information was added by the Rambot and appears correct as of the 2000 census (search at factfinder.census.gov). I added a mention of the Chief. HollyAm 21:21, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
"Primarily Catholic Christians, Oshkosh also has some populations of Muslims, Jews and Hindus." Perhaps some demographic information could be found to make this statement more accurate and less apocryphal. As written, my personal opinion is that it should be removed. El Krem 17:38, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree and support its removal for the reasons given. 72.131.44.247 18:02, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
candy stores
[edit]I'm removing Oaks and Hughes chocolate shops as I don't think they're a particularly important draw to the area. Like say EAA or The Paine is. --Andymussell 22:55, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Good call. Thanks! Royalbroil Talk Contrib 01:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Oshkosh Truck
[edit]I think it would be worth building on the information regarding Oshkosh Truck. OTC is now a multi-billion dollar, international company who is the largest employer in the city I believe with the exception of perhaps the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.188.124.201 (talk • contribs)
- I absolutely agree - GO FOR IT! Be bold by updating and expanding the article for the company! You don't need permission! Royalbroil Talk Contrib 08:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Population
[edit]I corrected the population and added to the Metropolitan area. The population should be listed on the side too.
I added the InfoBox and I am soon going to take more pictures of the Oshkosh skyline with maybe a few others.
Cool
[edit]Cool! I found this article as a random page. jj137 (Talk) 02:39, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Oshvegas
[edit]I never heard of Oshkosh being called by its nickname: Oshvegas. That is a new one for myself. Some sort of citation is needed for Oshvegas.Thanks-RFD (talk) 14:33, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Many natives refer to Oshkosh as Oshvegas, especially the younger student population. The basis of this nickname stems from the OshVegas Palm Gardens sign (a RV/Camping Park) that is quite visible from Highway 41. Here is a link to there website, along with a picture of the huge sign.

- That may be, but has the nickname been published in a reliable source? Having a RV park with that name doesn't necessarily mean the nickname belongs in the article if nothing reliable discusses that name. Anything in the Northwestern? I sign with my alma mater colors. Royalbroil 04:19, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Question: Has the Oshkosh Common Council gave an official nickname for the City of Oshkosh? That is something to look into.Thanks-RFD (talk) 14:32, 18 November 2008 (UTC)The Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce?
- To the best of my knowledge, the nickname came before the resort/campground was established. I certainly heard the term before. However, as I mentioned in my edit summary for the revert, I personally feel that it's not worth mentioning in the infobox. Whether other people think so is up to them. Chief-O (talk) 19:27, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Many thanks-I will check and see what official nicknames Oshkosh has-I do agree Oshvegas is north worth mentioning in the Infobox-RFD (talk) 19:34, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Merge Recreation into Culture and Entertainment
[edit]I am pretty new here, so I am unsure if the Recreation section is required, or if merging them WOULD be a good idea. As is, the Recreation section is pretty barren. AnsFenrisulfr (talk) 20:38, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

The Backrooms
[edit]I'm starting this thread to discuss the Backrooms now that we know the famous photo originated in Oshkosh.
Perhaps we mention it in a paragraph in the "Culture and entertainment" section? Or perhaps it could get its own sub-section?
As of now, there aren't many sources to reference... I'm not sure if this is valid enough: [1]https://knowyourmeme.com/news/the-location-of-the-backrooms-has-finally-been-discovered-after-six-years-of-search OddlyOaktree (talk) 19:22, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
